Job Purpose
Applications are invited for the post of Recruitment Adviser for the University of British Columbia. Based in Mumbai, the successful candidate will be a part of Sannam S4’s Education Team.
The key objective of the job will be to advise and assist UBC in enhancing its capacity to engage internationally, and to strengthen UBC's associations and partnerships within India and neighbouring regions in collaboration with currently assigned UBC Designated Adviser in Sannam S4’s Delhi Office.
In the above regard, the candidate will be expected to provide assistance in recruitment coordination services in support of UBC's International Student Initiative's (ISI) endeavours throughout India, and secondarily in neighbouring countries, including Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka, in order to increase international enrolments from the region in bachelor degree programs at both UBC Vancouver and UBC Okanagan campuses.
The candidate will also provide effective recruitment and advising services to students identified by UBC who are attending secondary schools in India and neighbouring regions, as well as to their school counselors, parents and others.
The candidate should have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills and should have the ability to build effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders in the education sector.
As the candidate will be working remotely with the University’s on-campus team, staff and advisers across countries, he/she should be highly organized, self-motivated and comfortable working with differences in time zones.
This role will require the candidate to spend considerable time travelling to cities within India, to the University (at least once a year), and meet virtually with various ISI colleauges. Therefore, he/she is expected to be flexible to work during weekends and evenings, as required.

Under the guidance provided by ISI’s Director, International Recruitment, Asia and Europe and Manager, International Recruitment for Asia and Europe and supporting the existing Designated Adviser in Sannam S4’s Delhi offices, the candidate will undertake the following:
1. provide information to UBC with regard to strong secondary schools in India and neighbouring regions to enable UBC to build relationships with such schools;
2. support UBC Personnel in planning and organizing recruiting and outreach events for prospective students, their parents and counselors;
3. advise and assist UBC in identifying opportunities to increase brand awareness and market visibility for UBC, advise on marketing and communication strategies and viable advertising opportunities in the Indian market and other means of raising awareness about study in Canada at UBC;
4. liaise closely with the International Student Initiative (ISI) Office at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada and acts as a key contact for ISI staff and other UBC Personnel visiting India;
5. act as a contact with the Canadian consular offices and keep track of changes that may impact processing of Canadian Study Permits for students from the region; and
6. provide support for independent applicants to UBC's bachelor degree programs.
Recruitment coordination
Advise and support UBC's International Student Initiative's recruitment initiatives in India, and neighbouring countries, in coordination with existing Designated Adviser in Sannam S4’s Delhi office, by:
1. contacting schools and counselors to schedule visits for UBC representatives, sending confirmations, pre-booking hotel and arranging ground transportation as necessary;
2. identifying suitable recruiting events, exhibitions, fairs, and promotions for UBC to participate in
3. booking venues for information sessions and yield events and assisting with promotions and registrations;
4. carrying out post-activity follow-up, including compiling data on student leads, preparing and submitting reports on outcomes to UBC;
5. traveling across India to visit key schools and education fairs or other recruiting events, in consultation with UBC staff to collect relevant information;
6. assisting UBC personnel in effectively delivering presentations about UBC and about studying in Canada, of both a persuasive and informational nature, to large or small groups; and
7. assisting UBC personnel in effectively communicating the Canadian advantage and the University's key selling points vis-à-vis other post-secondary options in the US, the UK and elsewhere.
Student advisory
Assist UBC Personnel in the provision of effective advisory services by phone, email and in person to prospective students, parents and counselors by:
1. applying knowledge of: undergraduate programs available on both campuses, admission requirements, application procedures, English language proficiency requirements, support services available, tuition fees, scholarships and financial assistance, etc.;
2. supporting applicants in providing UBC with the necessary documentation to complete their evaluations for admission, encouraging individual students throughout the application process;
3. providing advice and assistance to newly admitted students on the Canadian Study Permit process, requirements and timelines to enable them to complete their applications for their Study Permits in a timely manner;
4. exploring opportunities for UBC to develop virtual connections and engaging with students in the region through various social media channels frequented by Indian students and reporting on same to UBC; and
5. participating in interactive virtual advising sessions with prospective students from the region in conjunction with the ISI team from UBC.
Expertise and research
1. Draw on an in-depth knowledge of India's and neighbouring region's secondary education systems; qualification equivalencies and advise ISl's Director, International Recruitment, Asia and Europe as well as ISI’s Manager, International Recruitment, Asia and Europe on how best to position its requirements to attract well, qualified students from strong schools to the University's degree programs.
2. Develop and maintain up-to-date knowledge of the University's degree programs open to international students, its admissions processes and students services, and identifies the best value proposition for Indian students.
3. Carry out market research and environmental scans, noting any trends or changes in the country or to school systems within the region that UBC should be aware of.
4. Develop and maintain key contacts list, monitor international application numbers and report on same to UBC's ISI department.
Other
1. Understand limits to knowledge, and refer complex issues or difficult situations that arise to the ISI Director, International Recruitment Asia and Europe and ISI’s Manager, International Recruitment, Asia and Europe, depending on the nature of the difficulty.
2. Maintain good communication protocols with the ISI supervisors and colleagues, participating through virtual means (Skype or other) in weekly ISI team meetings, providing ISI Manager, International Recruitment, Asia and Europe with weekly updates on activities and plans, confirming status of projects in process, checking on priorities, and agreeing on work load.
3. Conduct advisory services including support for recruitment, in a professional manner, observing confidentiality in relation to UBC data, market intelligence, and other knowledge and information about the University. Comply with the University's policies pertaining to Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy, subject to Indian law.
4. Participate in training virtually from India, but also by visiting Vancouver for special ISI training and orientation sessions.
Any other duties as directed, commensurate with the scope and classification of the position.

Experience & Qualifications
• At least three years’ experience in international student recruitment or marketing in a higher education environment
• Experience in communicating with a wide range of audiences and tailoring written and spoken communication as appropriate.
• Experience in organizing events.
• Experience in using social media as a marketing tool.
• Experience in working or studying in Canada can be an asset.
Qualification: Graduates or post-graduates in any discipline, preferably with a degree in Business or Marketing. A qualification from Canada or familiarity with the Canadian education system would be desirable, but not essential.
