This role, as a member of Sannam S4’s higher education advisory team will support the University’s international marketing team, focusing on the USA and Canada.
Overview of Role
To enhance the capacity of the University, which is seeking to strengthen its presence in the US this role will lead on the development and implementation of outreach, marketing and recruitment strategies across study abroad and summer school programmes. The role will sit within the Global Opportunities team, part of the Global Engagement Office within the Marketing and Communications Directorate.
Global Opportunities (GO) exists to promote and manage inbound and outbound mobility programmes, which allow Queen Mary students and staff to study, work and travel overseas. These programmes include the fee-paying Study Abroad Programme (incoming only) as well as European exchanges, the Swiss European Mobility Programme, international exchanges and Summer Schools.
Study abroad and exchange programmes are an essential component of Queen Mary’s Global Engagement Strategy and the institution is committed to providing all students with opportunities for multidisciplinary and international experience.
The Study Abroad Officer is responsible for implementing and (in collaboration with the Global Opportunities Programme Managers, Senior Management, Schools and Professional Services) developing Queen Mary’s marketing and recruitment strategy for incoming fee-paying students enrolling on the Study Abroad Programme from the USA.
The role will be home-based and reports into Sannam S4’s Partner Success Manager.

Key responsibilities and objectives of the job:
• Identifies opportunities – and effectively communicates these opportunities in the form of written strategic plans - to increase market visibility for Queen Mary, advising and developing marketing and communication strategies and viable advertising opportunities in the US market and other means of raising awareness about study abroad at the university.
• Provides market insight on North America trends and makes recommendations to support informed decision making for the development of the marketing strategies of these markets.
• Develops good working relationships with new and existing partner universities, study abroad programme providers and other organisations to ensure that they receive appropriate information about policies and procedures relating to students coming to study at Queen Mary.
• Liaises closely with a range of colleagues in the Global Engagement Office and acts as a key contact for this office’s staff and other university personnel visiting the USA.
• Represents the university at education and recruitment fairs, conferences and school visits. Comfortable preparing and delivering presentations to a range of audiences. Confident in the logistical planning and coordination of the travel details with the above events.
• Ensures that Study Abroad is promoted effectively and high quality information is provided for prospective students and their advisors.
• Acts as one of the main points of contact for prospective students, applicants and their influencers from the USA.
• Follows up attendance at recruitment fairs with conversion activity through personal contact, automated messaging via the CRM system and through social media and other forms of communication.
• In collaboration with the Study Abroad Manager (Marketing & Recruitment) contributes to the professional development of the operations of the Study Abroad Programme, seeking out best practice (from competitors and elsewhere) to increase effectiveness and efficiency for incoming students to Queen Mary’s mobility programmes.
• Assists with the processing of applications and nominations of students applying to study at Queen Mary and management of the team’s general inbox.
• Assists with the organisation and preparation of incoming visits from partner universities from the USA.
• Contributes to the development of on and offline marketing tools, including social media and presence on relevant online media; and will also contribute in the development of printed materials to support the University’s international recruitment activities.
• Understands the marketing and social media landscape and emerging trends, and applies this knowledge to support the development of content and channels relating to Queen Mary’s Study Abroad Programme and other mobility programmes.
• Liaises with the Alumni Office to develop a system for best utilizing local alumni networks focusing on recruitment activities.
• Identifies and initiates links with new universities, government agencies and other organisations in the designated countries, in close collaboration with the Study Abroad Manager (Marketing & Recruitment).
• Is a team player providing mutual support and encouragement to other team members.
• Develops effective internal and external working relationships with a range of campus communities, and external partners, representatives, and professional organisations.
• Undertakes other duties as required by the Head of Global Opportunities.

•Knowledge of the higher education industry in the USA and UK

•Experience of writing and editing engaging copy and content production, particularly for the web

•Minimum bachelor’s degree
