Job Description:

Category Researchers research and identify topics, and create title proposals that express the commercial case and vision for a content product that will meet the market needs. Proposals that meet the required standard of commercial viability become the starting point for book projects executed by the Acquisition and Publishing teams.

The role works to understand the specific information needs and behaviors of individual target audiences, and to distill this learning into research documents intended to facilitate commissioning within the team, and share insight with other members of staff within the Commissioning, Acquisition and Publishing teams, and also more broadly with other book project stakeholders such as Marketing.

Responsibilities :
Write initial research documents to distil understanding of topics to grow our market intelligence and to facilitate title proposal development
Write title proposals within the designated category
Track major milestones for technologies within the designated category and share this with relevant stakeholders
Monitor and counteract the activities of rival publishers within a given market
Evaluate and provide constructive feedback on outlines acquired by the AE team
Collaborate with the AE team to ensure that they understand book vision and required author profile
Validate selections of material from titles in the pipelineContribute to the development and validation of PI
Provide consultancy for topic-related issues on titles in the pipelineParticipate in DEVCON, TECHCON and other editorial meetings where required
Monitor the performance of published titles and use this to inform our commissioning process

Competencies :
Analytical thinker with the ability to identify new technologies and opportunities with a consumer-driven focus
Investigate who uses technology, their main tasks, and the challenges they face to establish and explain the target audience and vision for the book
Able to use analysis and combine broader trends and insights to construct a valid commercial case for a product
Select the appropriate series type and makes other decisions appropriate to the book’s purpose and audience
